Waterpark FAQ's Thunder Bay

For your maximum safety and enjoyment while visiting our waterpark, please keep the following guidelines in mind.

To view waterpark hours, please click on the Waterpark Hours calendar at the left.

Please obey the lifeguards at all times. They are staffed so that you may experience our rides to the utmost enjoyment while remaining safe.

For your safety, the facility routinely conducts drills and Vigilance Awareness Training. For further information, see a waterpark manager.

General Rules That Apply Throughout the Waterpark:

  • No dunking, no shoulder riding, or rough play
  • No running
  • No diving or jumping into pools
  • No double riding or chains
  • Wristbands must be worn
  • Towels must stay in the waterpark
  • Swim diapers must be worn by children age four and under.
  • Great Wolf Lodge requires that guests wear appropriate swim attire. Cut-off jeans, see-through suits and thong suits are not permitted.
  • No outside food/beverage allowed
  • Only coast guard approved life jackets

Activity Pool
No shaking, twisting of, or standing on floatable (snake & log)

Frog Bog Log Walk

Spirit Island
  • The lily-pads are a one-way activity and only one guest at a time per Lilly pad
  • Children under 48” must be accompanied by an adult
  • No climbing on ropes
  • Guest must exit water area immediately after falling off pads
    (they can not get back on or swim in this area)
Mineshaft Body Slides
  • One rider on slide at a time
  • Children must be 48” or supervised by an adult.
  • Guests must ride feet first with arms across chest and exit splash pool quickly to the sides
  • No life jackets are permitted on this ride
  • Guests are not allowed to sit at the end of the slide

Lookout Mountain/Tree Wolf/Thunder Run and Lightning Falls Tube Slides

  • Children under 48'' must be accompanied by an adult
  • Correct riding position requires guests to sit in the hole with feet on top of the tube
  • Single tube, one rider only. Double tube, no more than two riders
  • Guests must exit splash pool quickly; Steps for exit only (entering/sitting not allowed)
  • Life jackets are permitted on this ride

Mountain Edge Raceway, Whirly Bird Run, and Coyote Cannon

  • Must be 42” to ride
Bear Track Landing

Raccoon Lagoon

  • Must be under 48”

Hawk's Beak Kiddie Slides

  • Children over 48'' are NOT permitted on slides
  • Children under 48'' must be supervised by an adult
  • Parents may catch children at the bottom and exit landing area quickly
  • Feet first riding only; No head first or belly sliding allowed
  • Life jackets are permitted on this ride

Gushin' Geyser

  • Must be 48'' or under to play unless accompanied by a child
  • Water toys and furniture are not allowed in zero-depth pool

Fort Mackenzie

  • No running, no hanging or swinging on ropes
  • No age/height limit
  • No bending or covering hoses to spray guests on deck
  • No banging toys together

Hot Springs Hot Tubs

  • No jumping/diving, climbing on rocks
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the lower hot tub
  • Must be 21 or older to be in upper hot tub

Crooked Creek

  • Guests are not permitted on the island in the river
  • No piling/stacking tubes
  • Life jackets are permitted
  • No rough play, flipping or pushing of tubes

Thunder Bay (Seasonal Outdoor Pool)

  • NO hanging on basketball rims or nets
  • Tubes are allowed in the pool, but no stacking tubes
  • NO rough play

Half Moon Lake Outdoor Pool

  • NO standing on floatables
  • NO stacking tubes
  • NO rough play
  • NO food or drink on Island
  • One person at a time down the slide
  • Must go feet first down the slide
  • No swinging on ropes in or around the tree house
Thunder Bay

Thunder Run and Lightning Falls Slides

  • Single or double tubes allowed on both slides: Heavier person must sit in the back and a single rider on a double tube must sit in the back
  • All riders must face forward
  • Children under 42” are advised not to ride without adult supervision.

Howlin' Tornado

  • The Howlin' Tornado is a multi-rider raft speed slide with quick acceleration, steep drops, splashes, and a landing pool finish.
  • You must be 48” tall to ride.
  • Two, three, or four riders are permitted; the combined weight of riders shall not exceed 700 lbs.
  • Only four-person cloverleaf tubes are permitted, single or double tubes are not allowed.
  • Riders must sit facing one another, remain seated and hold on to tube handles at all times.
  • Loose items such as hats, visors, etc. are not permitted, and eyeglasses must be secured.
  • Guests are permitted to wear life jackets while riding.
  • This ride is recommend for guests in good health and good physical condition.
  • Pregnant women, guests with heart conditions, guests with neck or back problems, and guests under the influence of alcohol or drugs are encouraged not to participate.
  • Please exit the splash pool quickly.

Ellis & Associates Certified Lifeguards
In an ongoing effort to ensure guest safety and satisfaction, Great Wolf Resorts™ (GWR) has partnered with Jeff Ellis & Associates (E&A), a private, outside consulting firm specializing in aquatic risk management. To keep our standards and practices at the highest levels possible, GWR will typically do a number of drills and skills tests during hours of operation. In addition to this, Ellis & Associates will perform four unannounced operational audits per year at each facility, testing them in areas of professionalism, diligence in scanning techniques and rescue skills, as well as their ability to manage an aquatic emergency. If you have any questions regarding our Risk Management Program, please feel free to contact an aquatic manager.
